Location and Fun Facts

The University of Michigan was founded in Detroit in 1817. Later in 1837

the University moved to Ann Arbor. U of M is Michigan’s oldest university.

Before it was name the University of Michigan it was called the

Catholepistemiad. The first classes took place in 1841 with only 6 freshmen

and 1 sophomore. Their football program has the most wins in college

football history. U of M is part of the Big Ten Conference.

          Campus Life, Graduate School, Undergraduate School

Their campus is the sixth-largest campus housing system in the U.S.

The Ann Arbor campus is divided into four main areas: The North, Central,

Medical, and Southern campuses. The physical campus has more than

500 major buildings. There is more than 1,150 student clubs and

organizations at the University. There are thirteen undergraduate schools and

colleges. The three largest undergraduate units are the College of Literature,

Science and the Arts, and the College of Engineering. There are eighteen

Graduate schools and colleges. The largest are the College of Literature,

Law School, and the Ross School of Business.

Sports

Michigan has great sports programs and have won lots of national championships. Here are a few examples.

Football- 11 national championships

Basketball- 1 national championship

Baseball- 2 national championships

Ice Hockey- 9 national championships

Men’s Swimming and Diving- 18 national championships

Softball- 1 national championship

Men’s Golf- 2 national champion ships

Men’s Track and Field- 1 national championship
