Legally Blonde

Don’t you dare call Elle Woods a dumb Blonde! She has been in a book, 2 movies, and a musical. Who would have thought that Legally Blonde would come so far.

The start of it all was a book, Legally Blonde. Amanda Brown wrote it. Amanda went to Stanford Law School and now lives with her family in southern California. In 2003, she did a voiceover in the movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. She has also written various books like Ominus, Family Trust, and Legally Blonde 2. Some differences between the movie and the musical from the book  are that in the book Elle has a Bichon not a Chihuahua. Elle also went to Stanford in the book not Harvard. They even mixed around the names of the main characters; from Brook Vandermark to Brooke Winddom and Warner Huntingdon to Warner Hunington the 3rd.

Legally Blonde the movie was released through Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer productions. The movie was directed by Robert Luketic. Elle Woods was played by Reese Witherspoon, who was also the executive producer of the movies. Thirty-two year old Reese Witherspoon is a very talented actress. She has been an actor since 1991. Ms. Witherspoon won 31 awards and has been nominated 27 times. Her costar, Luke Wilson, has also won 2 awards and has been nominated 3 times.  Together, these talented actors made a huge hit in 2001. It was so big they made a second one. Both of these movies were filmed in Cambrige, Boston, Southern California, and Washington,D.C.. In the 2nd movie, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde, Elle is getting ready to marry Emmett. Then, she goes to Washington, D.C. to try to make Animal testing illegal. It was good, but not as funny as the first one.

The last piece of the puzzle is Legally Blonde: the Musical. It is filled with upbeat funny songs. First, the character Elle on Broadway was Laura Bell Bundy. Laura was nominated for a Tony award in 2007. When she was younger, she was trained in tap, jazz, and ballet. She is a former beauty queen. One of her proudest moments was when she sang the national anthem in front of Bill Clinton. She was Amber von Tussel in Hairspray: the musical and Glinda in Wicked: the musical.

The current Elle Woods in Legally Blonde the Musical is Becky Gulsvig. She is 26 years old and she also played Amber von Tussel just like Laura Bell Bundy. Right now Becky is recovering from a broken toe and is planning to be back on stage on Feb. 28th. As Becky is recovering, Laura Bell Bundy and Elle’s understudy are sharing the role. The Elle’s Wood understudy is Lauren Zakrin.

Lauren Zakrin is 19 years old and is the youngest member of the crew. She is also the understudy for Margot( Elle s best Friend). Lauren was a finalist on the Search for Elle Woods. Lauren is also a sophomore at Western Michigan University Musical Theater Program.

The dogs in Legally Blonde: the musical and the movie, are all rescue dogs or from the animal shelter. Chico plays Bruiser. Chico was also in both of the movies too. Chloe plays the English bulldog Rufus. There were five dogs together on set.

The search for Elle Woods was one of the highest-ranked shows on MTV. It started out with 50 girls. Then they competed and the group was reduced down to 10 finalists. Lauren Zakrin, 4th pace, and Rhiannon Hansen, 3rd place, are on the National tour. The winner of the search for Elle Woods was Bailey Hanks. .Bailey Hanks is now on Broadway and runner-up, Autumn Hulbert, is Bailey’s understudy. Bailey is a student at coastal California University. Bailey is only 20 years old and has been in many productions.

As you can see, Legally Blonde, is much more than just a book. If you can see Legally blonde at the movie store, rent it. If you see the book, buy it. Also the musical is fun and high spirited. I love “LEGALLY BLONDE.”
