Johann Sebastian Bach

 Johann Sebastian Bach a well-known German composer. He lived in the Baroque period to the Classical period when he was almost died. He was a court musician, composer, organist, teacher, father, concertmaster, music director, baroque composer, and a keyboard player. J.S. Bach went through many hardships, moving, and composing.

Birth of Johann Sebastian Bach

   Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Saxe-Eisenach, Germany He was the youngest child in the family and is a Lutheran. His father Ambrosis Bach, his mother Maria Elisabetha Lammerhirt, and his brother is Johann Christoph Bach.

  His whole family is musicians and he learned how to play the clavichord, organ, violin, harpsichord, and chord. He loved music.

 

Childhood

While he was still young his parent died and he had to live with his older brother, Johann Christoph Bach.

  While he was living with his brother, Bach had special music books that he would not let his brother touch. At night Johann Sebastian Bach would sneak to the lock cabinet where is brother would lock them up. Johann Sebastian Bach’s hands were so small they could fit through it and copy it down on a piece of paper so he could play it later. But later was caught by his brother.

Schooling

  At school Johann Sebastian Bach had good grades, learned how to speak German and Greek, and liked theology. He also had one school friend.  The house was getting too crowded with Johann Christoph’s now; luckily Johann Sebastian’s teacher got him a choral scholarship in Lüneburg. So he and his school friend went to Lüneburg.

Music

  Johann Sebastian Bach had dramatic starting in his music, and also melodic lines. He liked the Italian solo-tutti structure. Bach tried to out words and feelings in his music so people could understand music and enjoy it. He wrote baroques and interventions.

Songs

  Songs Bach’s two well-known church songs were “St. Mattew’s Passion” and “St. John’s Passion”. In Johann Sebastian’s lifetime he wore over 1,000 songs. Some of his well-known pieces “The Well Tempered Clavier” and “Libretti”.

Hardships

  When Johann Sebastian was first looking for a job it was hard because no one respected him. One time he went to Mühlhause for a job the place was all black because recently there was a fire that burned some of the places were burned down and people were having a hard time there themselves.

J.S. Bach’s Family

  Johann Sebastian Bach had two wives. The first one was named Maria Barbara Bach and the second one is named Anna Magdalena Bach. Anna died while Bach was away on a trip.  Johann Sebastian Bach had total of 21 children and only 6 lived and became famous.

Moving

  J.S. Bach had moved many times to get jobs. He first moved Weimar for a job for organ then to Mühlhausen for a job for as organist, back to Weimar and became a member of the chamber orchestra, then he moved to Cöthen to become a capellmeister, Leipzig and lived there for the rest of his life.

Last Few Years of His Life

  Bach became rich and had many cousins living with him. People started to respect him more. Bach died on 1750, July 28 at age 65.  He had almost turned blind. Bach had many unfinished pieces.

Lost and Restored

  Bach’s music was forgotten after he died.  Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart another composer rediscovered Bach’s music and copied his style and Bach’s music was back again.

Still remembered

  Even Johann Sebastian Bach is died he is still remembered for his beautiful music. Also over 10 countries have monuments of him.
